The Friends of the Montana Constitution is happy to provide printed copies of Montana’s Constitution to classrooms and community groups, while supplies last. Please submit your request at least two weeks before your event to allow for processing and shipping. Booklets are 4”x6”, 91 pages and contain the current Montana Constitution with all amendments.

The Montana Constitution Collection

The Montana Constitution Collection is a project of the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center and the Blewett School of Law. It contains a record of Montana’s constitutional history leading through the 1972 Constitutional Convention. Assembled in 2023, the collection consists of memos, proceedings, studies, papers and commentary surrounding the creation and adaptation of the Montana Constitution.

A one-hour film by Gus Chambers, “For This and Future Generations, the story of Montana’s 1972 Constitutional Convention” was produced for KUFM-TV and Montana PBS in 2002.

Montana Constitutional Convention Oral History Collection

This collection from Montana State University contains oral histories conducted in 2021-2022 with some of the delegates to Montana’s 1972 Constitutional Convention. Of the original 100 delegates, eleven were known to be alive at the time of the project. The project was a collaboration of the MSU Library, MSU President’s Office, Vice President of Communications Tracy Ellig, MSU alumnus Sarah Vowell, the Montana Free Press, and Montana PBS.

The Last Best Constitution - Montana's 1972 Constitutional Convention & Constitution

“The Last Best Constitution – Montana’s 1972 Constitutional Convention & Constitution” is a Video Retrospective produced by Evan Barrett in 2022 and hosted on the Montana History Portal. This 22 episode series covers a wide range of topics on the landmark event in the state’s history. The series was created by Helena Civic Television and Orphan Girl Production, and originally aired on PBS. It covers an astounding range of topics on the people and the process who made our Constitution possible.

This award-winning Montana History Video Series was produced in 2015-2016 by Evan Barrett and features 43 1-hour video interviews with Montanans. Episodes 16-29 and 41 are directly related to the Constitutional Convention and the Constitution.
