“Hiring staff was the next big step in our nonprofit organizational development,” said Board Chair Susan Byorth Fox. “The Friends of the Montana Constitution formed in 2022 after the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Montana’s State Constitution and we are focused on promoting and celebrating our unique Constitution.” Fox retired in 2022 after 16 years as Director of Montana’s Legislative Services. She totaled 33 years in that bipartisan legislative office.

Fox said the Board is working on implementing their strategic plan for the next year and looks forward to working with many partner organizations across the state to educate the public on the history and legacy of the Montana Constitution.

“All Montanans should be proud of our Constitution,” said Gustafson. “I’m excited to work with this knowledgeable and passionate state-wide board to expand awareness and appreciation of our State Constitution.”

The Friends of the Montana Constitution inspires appreciation of the Montana Constitution and celebrates the legacy of the 1972 Constitutional Convention. Comprised of 11 volunteer board members, one ex-officio member (a 1972 ConCon Delegate), four honorary co-chairs, and one part-time staff member, this small 501c3 nonprofit is dedicated to promoting and enhancing the public’s understanding and appreciation of the 1972 Montana Constitution; advancing civics education at all levels about the 1972 Montana Constitution; and recognizing and celebrating the 1972 Constitutional Convention and its delegates.
